TOPAZ was the first operational application of the EnKF by NERSC back in 2003. It has been forecasting the ocean and sea ice on a regular basis since then, assimilating satellite data of the ocean and sea ice as well as in situ data into a North Atlantic and Arctic configuration of the HYCOM-CICE model. It has become the Arctic Monitoring and Forecasting Center as part of the Copernicus Marine Services in collaboration with MET Norway, the IMR and DMI. The forecasts of the ocean are produced on a daily basis by MET Norway and NERSC runs the same system in reanalysis mode.
